Round 7 - 22 May - Seniors

Something to prove against the current premiers who bundled us out of the finals last year.

Brooksie sporting a shorter "do" and Josh Nelson back from the oil rigs for a couple of weeks.

To win we needed the champs to fire  - and they did. Burgess, Gilmour and Maguire.

New recruit Wayne Hogan brought a wealth of experience and kicked a couple of goals early, finishing with 5.

Brooks in full flight but had to leave the ground with an injury. Nelson, with a nice mark.

Bielski and Matuszek were busy.   Shaw was in form until he, like brooksie had to leave the ground early.

Marks to Butler and Hogan.

Burgess and Butler

Goal to Reeves with a subtle celebration and Saunders looking for a target.

Nelson in full flight

Nelson in the air again and Gilmore watches Mazey get the ball out of the danger zone.

Stewart helps Burgess up for a well earned rest.

Two goals up at the first break

Nelson, James and Maquire working hard to increase the lead

Bailey with a nice grab, Whittle with work to do without Shaw and a goal to Beams.

Mal Stewart clears and another mark to Whittle playing his 50th game for the Rainbows.

Beams testing his repaired knee, Gilmour who was BOG and mark to Bielski.

Returning from the main break and enjoying a handy 6 goal break.

Bailey and Nelson in some early second half action.

All class - Burgess, Gilmour and Beams.

  Butler with another possession
Bit of tension but an excellent game for spectators with both sides going hard at the ball.

Matuszek, Nelson and Beams kicking for goal. He ended up with 2

Big man Maguire throwing his weight around and mark and goal to the even bigger man Hogan

  Butler.
Mazey and Matuszek

Less than a four goal lead and the brains trust know that Richmond are going to come
out hard in the last quarter.

.. and come hard they did. Richmond took the lead in the at about the 20 minute mark.

James, Matuszek, and Beams used their experience to keep the side focused.

Goal to Reeves

Goal to Whittle and Hansen wasn't going to let this one slip.

Burgess was terrific all day but sensational in the last - marking everything that came his way
Could they hang on with virtually no bench?

Goal to Hansen and a slim lead in a nail-bighter.

Matuszek and Whittle working hard to protect a 2 point margin.

A fantastic victory that should provide a lot of belief within the group - well done.
