Thankyou Ben Beams

Thankyou Ben for your 9 years of contribution to the TUFC (so far!!)

                                             2020

Ben commenced coaching TUFC in 2009 for 3 years then returned in 2015 after 3 years with Glenorchy, becoming a premiership coach in 2016. He is an outstanding person with a great footy brain and a lethal left foot averaging 3.5 goals a game with the Rainbows. Over his nine years of coaching Ben has been a tremendous asset to the Uni football club on and off the field.  Ben always looked at where our playing deficiencies were and is very active in recruiting players to add to the Uni line up. Ben also went over and above coaching responsibilities including producing weekly reports and other duties required  to assist around the club. Ben understands the balance between work, family life and study and consciously works with individuals to get the best for the person and the club.

Ben is fiercely loyal to his players and the club but also demonstrated his commitment to the OSFA in 2019 playing an integral part in the development of the OSFA representative squad to take on the SFL’s best players in a one-off game. Along with Alex Gilmour and Ian Callinan, Ben selected and trained the squad and was the game day coach, untimely leading the team to a win in the inaugural game between the two leagues.

With the arrival of the women’s team, Ben has worked with their coach, Gerry O’Dea to create an environment that is welcoming and encouraging to ensure the everyone feels part of the one club.

Ben has been supported by Jo and the rest of their family. Two of the boys(Riley and Jordy) have played or are currently playing seniors and Jake and Harrison have run water and helped around the club.

Ben is a passionate football person who has the club, association and football in general at heart.  The leadership and devotion he has displayed  and continues to display at the University Football Club and wider football community are highly valued and appreciated.
