There was plenty of excitement and optimism as always
leading into Round 1. We have a new look list and have aspirations of pushing
for a top 4 spot at seasons end. Taking on the reigning Premiers in the first
game was going to give us a solid guide on where we are at as a team and so it
proved.
Even though we won the 1st and last terms on the scoreboard the
Roosters dominated the middle two quarters to blow us away with their superior
work rate and willingness to use the corridor.
Saturday provided us with some
clear area's of improvement which we will have to rectify Tuesday night at
training. Sam Chivers was tireless in defence along with Chris Howard who has
continued his great form from last season, veteran Brad Green showed he still
has some life left in his 38 year old legs Kicking 5 majors to be our only
multiple goal scorer. Alec Willing was handy across half back and Ash Woodhead
gave us plenty of energy in the ruck.

The Reserves with 10 players playing their first game
for the Mighty Rainbows were very competitive but in the end DOSA's work rate
and teamwork proved too strong. As the season progresses the Uni teams have
always grown stronger and more competitive. Blake Waight with 5 goals, the
veteran Mav moving in to an onball role and Connor Berry around the ground stood
out. A highlight was Rob Harwood's long kicking from the backline.
Next week
doesn't get any easier as we travel to Richmond on Thursday night to take on the
Blues fresh off a big first up wins against Hutchins. Both sides need to bring a
total 4 quarter effort if we are to bounce back and register our first wins for
the year.
All the best to Jason Huizing who reaches his 50 game
milestone this week
R1 Women :00.04 (04)
v Brighton 13.12 (90)
R2 Women :06.03 (39)
v The Port 04.03 (27)
Congratulations to our women with a good
result to defeat Cygnet by 2 goals, after our shellacking at the hands of
Brighton. Gerry was pleased at how hard you all worked, in particular late
in the game when The Port were pressing for a goal. There was plenty of
pressure in the last quarter, but we held on for a deserving win. The best
moment was after the game when Gerry emphasised that every one had played
their role and influenced our win. It’s a great feeling when you have
everyone making a solid contribution. There is still work to do on our ball
handling and ball movement.
We would like everyone to get to
training with no games during the Easter break. Next game against Hobart 9.30 on
Sat 27th against Hobart at the TCA.

Unusual
to see the interchange gates so close to each other.
Big Sam
Chivers was named best for Uni
Coach
Ben Beams addresses the team and should have been reasonably happy with a slight
lead at the first break
