Preview Round 15 - June 19
The game between OHA and Richmond at Geilston Bay promises to be beauty with the home team up against a vastly improved Richmond who will pose problems. Both teams are rich with on ball talent and move the ball forward quickly giving their forwards ample opportunities while OHA will be keen to give Sam Bowering the chance to kick 5 goals needed to bring up his century and his likely opponent with the unenviable task could be Adam Baines. Whilst OHA have a well balanced combination players of the calibre of Damien Dillon, Stuart Probert, Craig Grace and Callum Garvey are eye catching but Richmond with onballers Adam Daft, Jacob Dunn and Aaron Reeve with Chris Ross leading the way are hungry for a top two spot and a win will boost their chances as the race for final four spots hots up.

Hutchins versus DOSA game at Queenborough is crucial to both teams finals chances with Hutchins lying fourth with DOSA in fifth spot. Both teams have been inconsistent but a tight game is anticipated with Hutchins’ Marcus Windsor at full back supported by Michael Egan, John Howe and Scott Nichols in the thick of it throughout as will DOSA’s Pat Carroll, Nick Lunn, Aaron Davey and Nathan Abrahams.

Although dropping their last two games St.Virgils with John Viney, Brad Davis and Nick Davey in solid form should hold all the aces at New Town against University who are getting great service from Julian Damesena and David Welch along with Nathan Brereton and Daniel Webster.

Review Round 15 - June 19
Richmond recorded an important 4 point victory over OHA in a nail biting finish.

OHA were on top in the first quarter with their ball movement too much for Richmond and they led by 21 points at the break but Richmond closed the game up and their accuracy saw them trail by only six points at half time. Richmond had the better of the third quarter and they added 5 goals to 3 to lead by 7 points into the final quarter which they increased to 3 goals but OHA fought back with Richmond holding on. Defenders Pat Turner and Nick Woolley, midfielder Kane Waller and onballers Aaron Reeve with 4 goals were best for Richmond while Michael Bannister, Warwick Dawson, Craig Grace and Brad Marsland stood out for OHA.

DOSA returned to form with a comfortable win over Hutchins. Hutchins were first out of the blocks with six scoring shots to nil by DOSA with the hardness at the ball were rewarded with only 1 goal but DOSA ran rampant kicking the next seven goals and lead by 34 points at the break. DOSA continued to dictate terms for the next three quarters with forwards Scott Allen and Matthew Honey finishing off the good work and they ran out worthy 43 point winners. Brendan Rogers was a star for DOSA at full back with support from Nick Benson, Nick Lunn and Ryan Delaney while for Hutchins Scott Nichols, Andrew Deane, Adam Doran and James Faulkner tried hard.

St.Virgils led by Mark Hill had all the answers registering an 89 point win over University. St.Virgils led at every change with Marcus Parker (7 goals), Sam Unsworth and Daniel Nicholas lending other stand out players while best for University were Ben Johnson, Julian Damesena, Michael Gowans and David Welch.

Preview Round 14 - June 12
Last round losers Richmond and St.Virgils clash at Richmond in a crucial game for both teams. On their day Richmond are a very professional outfit and match up well against St.Virgils as evidenced by their two wins in both games this season with Adam Daft, Steven Dick and Ben Waller around the ground, Daryl Williams and Will Eddington in defence and Mark Kamaric around goals leading the way. St.Virgils will give a good account of themselves especially if forward Marcus Parker, ruckman Joel Thirgood, Nick Davey and Duncan Jones in defence with Mark Beck and Brendan Davis fire early.

University will have their work cut out when they host Hutchins. University are only playing in short bursts but if they can sustain their work for four quarters and Nathan Brereton, Rob Oakley, Shaun Suitor and Mark Spinks play well they will push the visitors who hit their straps last week led by Adam Palfreyman at full forward, Michael Egan and Sam Palfreyman in midfield, defenders Marcus Windsor and Jason Nichols.

A markedly improved DOSA face a tough task when they confront OHA at Cadburys. Playing finals is a challenge for all teams and DOSA are desperate for finals action and Pat Carroll, Nathan Abrahams, Josh Claridge, Kim Harvey and Jason Green lead an accomplished group. Ladder leaders OHA are formidable unit with Matt McDermott, Stuart Probert, Sam Bowering, Ashley Banks and Matthew Heenan showing good form.

Review Round 14 - June 12
Richmond edged closer to a double chance spot with their continued dominance of St.Virgils this season in scoring a comfortable win over the visitors.

Richmond led at every change setting up their win with a fine opening quarter and put the icing on the cake with an 8 goal to 4 final quarter due to the drive provided by Chris Ross, Adam Daft, Pat Turner and Jacob Dunn to run out 51 point winners. St.Virgils struggled early but improved their performance in the second half led by John Viney, Matthew Cracknell, Daniel Nicholas and Nick Davey.

OHA proved too strong for DOSA showing more cohesion in attack courtesy of a dominant midfield to register a comfortable win on a slippery Cadburys oval. OHA got off to a flying start and by half time had a handy 39 point lead and although DOSA fought back early in the third quarter OHA continued on in the second half to win by 65 points. Damien Dillon was busy throughout for OHA with support from onballers Matthew Heenan, and Trent Moore and Stuart Probert across half forward while for DOSA Nick Benson and Aaron Davey in defence and onballers Mark McConnon and Nathan Abrahams played well.

An 8 goals to nil first quarter set the scene for Hutchins in their easy win over University. Apart from the second quarter the home team struggled as Hutchins with Marcus Windsor again in fine form plus John Howe, Scott Nichols and Andrew Deane dominant took control. University were best served by Nathan Brereton, Julian Damesena, Daniel Webster and David Welch.

Preview Round 13 - June 05
First plays second in the Old Scholars Football Association when OHA host St.Virgils at Geilston Bay.

Both teams are setting the pace at this stage of the roster and with the games locked at one all so far this season a bumper game is forecast with OHA led by Ashley Banks who is at home whether creating chances or kicking goals, Sam Bowering who leads the Association goalkicking on the back of several brilliant displays while Michael Bannister, Joe Doyle, Brad Marsland and Trent Moore continue to play well will make it difficult for St.Virgils who however are playing some of their best football to date courtesy of onballers Leigh McGrath, Mark Hill and John Rafferty, classy forwards in Marcus Parker and Sam Unsworth while Zac Batchelor leads a tight defence.

University clash with DOSA and although Cody Dineley, Ben Johnson, Gavin Shaw and John Saner are in form DOSA with onballers Nathan Abrahams, defenders Brendan Rogers and Jason Green and utility Nick Lunn leading the way should have all the answers.

Hutchins are home to big improvers Richmond and will need a four quarter effort to keep the visitors at bay although their form against OHA last week was very promising and if Jamie Harriss, Doug Rossiter, Michael Egan and Tyson Wills can fire up their team mates they will push Richmond who have moulded in to a solid outfit with Adam Daft, Ben Waller, Steven Dick and Kane Waller leading the way.

Review Round 13 - June 05
OHA stamped their authority as ladder leaders with a disciplined team effort in overcoming second placed St.Virgils.

The game was up for grabs as both teams fought for ascendancy in the first three quarters but OHA dominated the final quarter kicking 8 goals from 13 scoring shots while restricting St.Virgils to 4 scoring shots which produced 4 goals with OHA winning by 41 points. Matt McDermott was a driving force for OHA supported by defender Dan Ryan, Nathan Winch and Callum Garvey while best for St.Virgils were Duncan Jones and Nick Davey in defence, ruckman Joel Thirgood and onballers John Rafferty.

DOSA returned to the winners list handing out a 105 point thrashing of University. After an even opening quarter DOSA took control peppering the goals and finished off with a 9 goal final quarter whilst having 43 scoring shots for the game with supply built around the efforts of Nathan Abrahams, Kim Harvey, Pat Carroll and Michael Pace while University mostly struggled but Nathan Brereton, Rob Oakley, Mark Spinks and Shaun Suitor tried their best.

Led by an 8 goal haul from full forward Adam Palfreyman Hutchins proved too strong for Richmond in registering an important 39 point victory. Hutchins appeared in control for most of the game leading at every change with Marcus Windsor a standout along with Michael Egan, Jason Nichols and Sam Palfreyman while for Richmond Adam Baines, Adam Daft, Daryl Williams and Ben Waller played well.

Preview Round 12 - June 28
The clash Geilston Bay looms as a danger game for the visiting Hutchins when they face ladder leader OHA.

The return of several key players has strengthened OHA considerably and with a damaging forwards led by Sam Bowering, Ashley Banks and Brad Marsland, creative onballers in Michael Bannister and Brett Mitchell and a rock hard defence will put pressure on Hutchins who badly need victory to remain in contention for the finals but led by Damien Clark, Matthew Lister, Doug Rossiter, Sam Palfreyman and Andrew Deane will give a good account of themselves.

The St.Virgils versus DOSA clash at New Town should be a beauty if their round seven clash is any indication when both teams turned a powerful display. The return of St.Virgils’ Sam Unsworth and Nick Davey has added strength both up forward and in defence while the form of defenders Corey Bygraves and Brad Hastie along with onballers Mark Hill and Leigh McGrath could spell trouble for DOSA who will be hoping Kim Harvey returns but Scott  Beattie and Jason Green lead a solid defence, Nathan Abrahams and Josh Claridge cover plenty of territory and Scott Allen knows where the goals are.

Richmond should hold all the aces when they host University at Richmond. Richmond have been very competitive over the last five weeks but cannot afford to drop this game but with runners Aaron Reeve, Steven Dick, Adam Daft and Ben Waller leading the way and Jhy Wiggins dangerous when up forward should be too good for the visitors who have Jules Damesena, Ben Johnson, Greg Farmilo and David Welch playing well.

Review Round 12 - June 28

OHA exacted revenge on Hutchins with a hard fought win at Geilston Bay.

After an even first quarter OHA broke clear in the second quarter and establish a 22 point lead at the main break but Hutchins fought back kicking 7 goals to 4 by OHA reducing the margin to 5 points entering the final quarter in which both teams traded goals with OHA victors by 10 points. Stuart Probert, Nathan Winch, Brad Marsland and Ashley Banks were best for OHA while Jamie Harriss, Michael Egan, Tyson Wills and Doug Rossiter stood out for Hutchins.

St.Virgils scored a 46 point win over DOSA at New Town. Both teams looked to gain the ascendancy early but St.Virgils burst out of the blocks in the second quarter kicking 8 goals to 2 by DOSA and hold a handy 41 point lead at half time. An inaccurate DOSA were the better team early in the third quarter but St.Virgils gradually got on top and extend their lead to 60 points at three quarter time and although DOSA never gave in the margin was too great. St.Virgils Conan Zeigeler (5 goals) was a danger up forward with support from onballers Mark Hill, Leigh McGrath and John Rafferty while Darren and Mark McConnon, Nathan Abrahams and Jason Green were best for DOSA.

Richmond swamped University winning by 113 points. University were competitive in the first and fourth quarters but Richmond led by Heath Barwin (9 goals), Adam Daft and Kane Waller were consistent throughout the game although Cody Dineley, John Saner and Gavin Shaw worked hard for University.

 Preview Round 11 - June 21

Two huge games highlight round eleven in the Old Scholars Football Association when DOSA host Richmond and Hutchins clash with St.Virgils. In the other game University face OHA.

DOSA will be out to repeat last weeks effort in their clash with Richmond at Cadburys.

Unable to field their best team due to injuries for some weeks has had its affect on DOSA but they fought on last week coming from behind in the last quarter to win and a repeat of that form led by Paul Lennox, Josh Claridge, Brendan Rogers and Cameron Golding will hold them in good stead against  a Richmond outfit who have had their problems as well but the hard working Ben Waller, Steven Dick, Jhy Wiggins and Josh Woolley will set them rolling.

The clash at Queenborough sees the inconsistent Hutchins who need to finish their games off but have Michael Walsh, Damien Clark, Adam Doran and Andrew Deane playing well up against a St.Virgils combination who are suffering as most teams are with key players missing but are still displaying promising performances led by Mark Hill, Marcus Parker, Brendan Davis and Leigh McGrath.

University face an uphill battle at University when they play OHA but if Julian Damesena, Greg Farmilo, James Hoult and David Welch continue their form and they find some consistency anything could happen but the ladder leader should be too strong with leading goalkicker Sam Bowering, James Tierney, Jason Marsland and Ashley Banks leading from the front.

Review Round 11 - June 21

A second half blitz by Richmond enabled them to upset DOSA and jump into third spot on the premiership ladder.

Richmond controlled the first quarter but DOSA fought back in the second quarter holding the visitors goalless while kicking 5 goals and lead by 25 points at half time but the second half belonged to Richmond as they added 12 goals through chances created by Jhy Wiggins, Aaron Reeve, Steven Dick and Kane Waller restricting DOSA to 5 goals and win by 21 points. Jason Green, Brendan Rogers, Mark McConnon and Scott Allen stood out for DOSA.

St.Virgils continued their season dominance against Hutchins with a nail biting 3 point win. Neither team could get any advantage for the first three quarters but St.Virgils finishing in the final quarter saw them home as Hutchins rued their chance with inaccuracy. St.Virgils Corey Bygraves and Brad Hastie worked tirelessly in defence while Mark Hill and John Rafferty were busy around the ground with Hutchins best served by defenders Andrew Deane, Kevin Jubb, ruckman Doug Rossiter and onballer  Matthew Lister.

With full forward Sam Bowering kicking 11 goals OHA proved too strong for University winning by 82 points.

OHA appeared to have the measure of the home team when they led by 37 points at three quarter time but made sure of victory with an 11goal final quarter avalanche even though University fought the game out. Other good players for OHA were Trent Moore, Damien Dillon and Brad Marsland while none tried harder for University than Julian Damesena, Ben Johnson, Charles Spencer and Mark Spinks.

Review Round 9 - May 31

Preview Round 8 - May 24

With both Richmond and DOSA equal on points the clashes at Richmond between the home team and Hutchins and DOSA against University at Cadburys will be chock full of interest. Richmond had a resounding win last week but a repeat of that form will be required against Hutchins who are in a winning. Richmond have a talented line up led by onballers Heath Barwin, Steven Dick and Aaron Reeves with Jhy Wiggins in the ruck but they will meet stiff opposition from Hutchin’s onballers Michael Egan, Matthew Lister and Adam Doran and defender Michael Walsh.

DOSA worked hard last week and should have too many forward options for University with Kim Harvey and Paul Lennox around the ground and Nick Lunn and Cameron Golding in defence lending solid support. University’s Michael Gowans is showing form backed up by Rob Hill, Ben Johnson and Momtchil Paritchev.

The clash at New Town will see second placed St.Virgils up against ladder leader OHA. St.Virgils had a hard fought win against a worthy opponent last week and that will put them in good stead to face OHA with the in form Mark Beck, Marcus Parker, Joel Thirgood and Nathan Hartnett leading the way. OHA lost a tight one against Hutchins but will bounce back especially with Sam Bowering and Brad Marsland dangerous up forward and onballer Trent Moore and defender Cameron Geason providing plenty of drive.

Review Round 8 - May 24

Ladder leaders OHA suffered their second loss in a row this time at the hands of an in form St.Virgils. After an even first quarter OHA used the ball more fluently and established a 19 point lead at half time but St.Virgils took over in the second half with their fitness a feature kicking 10 goals to 5 from OHA to win by 18 points. St.Virgils Jason Frawley, Joel Thirgood and Daniel Nicholas worked tirelessly around the ground and Marcus Parker with 6 goals continues to be a headache for opposing backmen while Dan Ryan, Matthew McDermott, Trent Moore and Sam Bowering with 7 goals were best for OHA.

Richmond’s accuracy at goal was a factor in their win over Hutchins. Five points separated the teams at half time after an first half contest but Richmond with Ben Waller marshalling his troops from midfield finished the better outscoring Hutchins to win by 32 points. Other good players for Richmond were Chris Ross, Daryl Williams and Jhy Wiggins while Michael Walsh, Andrew Deane, Alistair Sayers and Matthew Lister were best for Hutchins.

DOSA proved too strong for University dishing out a 142 point thrashing at Cadburys. With Kim Harvey running riot and Scott Allen with 9 goals finishing off the good work DOSA were never threatened with all players contributing led by Heath Simms, Josh Claridge and Jason Green. University were generally outplayed but had solid contributors in Momtchil Paritchev, Michael Gowans, Todd Stevenson and Ben Johnson.

Preview Round 7 - May 17

The match of the round should be the clash between Hutchins and OHA at Queenborough even though OHA had an easy first round victory but Hutchins have improved immensely since then through the leadership of Michael Walsh, Michael Egan, Jamie Harriss and Sam Palfreryman plus the cagey Adam Palfreyman up forward while Damien Clark and Doug Rossiter have bolstered an already sound defence. OHA keep rolling along through  dominant onballers led by Michael Bannister and Brett Mitchell, in form forwards in Sam Bowering and Ashley Banks along with Jason Marsland, Luke Taylor and Warwick Dawson.

The DOSA versus St.Virgils match at Cadburys should be another close encounter with DOSA confident after their good win last week and St.Virgils taking over second spot after edging out Hutchins. Nick Lunn, Pat Carroll, Tim Golding, Ryan Delaney and Mark McConnon are in form for DOSA who are missing key forwards but Matthew Honey and Simon Harris have filled in capably. St.Virgils keep plugging away each week and although not at full strength their numbers led by Zac Batchelor, Ben Hughes, Duncan Jones and John Viney are delivering the goods.

University host Richmond in another close game although University still have key players unavailable but Greg Farmilo, David Welch, David McIver and Gavin Shaw lead an enthusiastic team while the unpredictable Richmond have the chance to move closer to the final four led by Kane and Ben Waller, Adam Baines and Jacob Dunn.

Review Round 7 - May 17

St.Virgils remain in second place after defeating DOSA in an entertaining game at Cadburys. St.Virgils dictated terms from the outset to lead by 28 points at the break but DOSA fought back in the second quarter although they still trailed by 33 points at half time. Positional changes by DOSA including moving Kim Harvey into the ruck lifted the home team and even though St.Virgils held a 26 point lead DOSA were full of running but St.Virgils were able to hang on and win by 16 points. St.Virgils best were Mark Beck and Marcus Parker up forward with Joel Thirgood and Daniel Nicholas while defenders Scott Beattie, Cameron Golding, Jason Green and Nick Lunn were best for DOSA.

Hutchins halted OHA’s unbeaten run with a hard fought win at Queenborough. Hutchins broke the game open in the third quarter kicking 5 goals and hold a 32 point lead at three quarter time but OHA fought back to reduce the margin to 14 points but it was all too late. Onballers Michael Walsh, Matthew Lister and Adam Doran with defender Damien Clark were best for Hutchins while Trent Moore, Dan Ryan, Cameron Geason and Damien Dillon played well for OHA.

With Heath Barwin kicking 10 goals Richmond went on a goal scoring spree against University to win easily by 125 points. Midfielders Aaron Reeves and Steven Dick and Jhy Wiggins in the ruck starred for Richmond while Rob Hill, Michael Gowans, Momtchil Paritchev and Ben Johnson tried hard for University.

Preview Round 6- May 10

Richmond can move back to fourth spot on the ladder if they defeat DOSA in their night game at Richmond.

To do this Richmond will need to repeat their third quarter effort against St.Virgils a fortnight ago but must show more consistency over four quarters although runners Kane Waller, Steven Dick, Jacob Dunn with Matt Evans are showing good form.

DOSA have also been inconsistent of late but can trouble all teams on their day and if their onballers led by Luke Golding and Nick Lunn can supply enough chances to forwards Matthew Honey and Brendan Rogers they will trouble the home team.

Third plays second when St.Virgils clash with Hutchins at New Town. It took St.Virgils three quarters to shake off an enthusiastic University last week but they stormed home and if they can repeat that form throughout the game with Daniel Nicholas, Daniel Gray, Matthew Cracknell and Sam Hughes leading from the front they will trouble Hutchins who have been at the top of their game since round two and getting better each week led by the in form Michael Egan, Jamie Harriss, Adam Palfreyman and Andrew Deane.

OHA should maintain their unbeaten run when they host University at Geilston Bay. OHA have strengths all over the ground with key players Craig Unsworth, Craig Grace, Sam Bowering and Ashley Banks standing tall but University will test them through the skills of David Welch, Pat McIver, Julian Damesena and Gavin Shaw but sheer weight of numbers will tell at the end.

Review Round 6- May 10

St.Virgils moved in to second spot on the ladder after scoring an important win over Hutchins. In a high scoring affair both defences were made to work hard as the ball seesawed from one end to the other while Hutchins had chances to win but inaccuracy at goal denied them and St.Virgils hung on to win by 12 points. Onballer John Viney, defenders Zac Batchelor, Ben Hughes and Corey Bygraves were best for St.Virgils while ruckman Michael Walsh with Damien Clark, Aaron Hogan and Doug Rossiter stood out for Hutchins.

A ruthless OHA proved far too strong for a struggling University to register an easy 123 point victory. OHA looked home when they led by 56 points at half time and they continued their domination in the second half kicking 12 goals to 2 by University. Onballers Craig Unsworth, Michael Bannister and Brett Mitchell with full forward Sam Bowering were best for OHA while none tried harder for University than Gavin Shaw, Todd Stevenson, Momtchil Paritchev and Louis Adams.

An 8 goals to 2 first half by DOSA was the catalyst for their 28 point victory over Richmond. With Nick Lunn, Mark McConnon and Pat Carroll providing plenty of chances DOSA controlled the game early and although they made up some ground in the second half Richmond were unable to make up the leeway. Other good players for DOSA were Brad Marsh and Ryan Delaney with Richmond best served by Will Eddington, Adam Baines, Jhy Wiggins, Kane Waller and Jacob Dunn.

Preview Round 5- May 03

An interesting clash is anticipated at Queenborough where a rejuvenated Hutchins take on DOSA.

Hutchins’ form over the last two weeks has improved dramatically after a shaky start and with Damien Clark and Andrew Deane leading a mean defence, Michael Egan, Matthew Lister and Sam Palfreyman providing plenty of opportunities for Adam Palfreyman at full forward and Jamie Harriss when resting will push  DOSA who welcome back several players while Pat Carroll, Matthew Harrison, Scott Beattie, Nick Lunn and Heath Simms are playing well.

Ladder leader OHA will be out to maintain their unbeaten record when they host Richmond at Geilston Bay. OHA have taken all before them after four rounds but the whisper is injuries have hit the team but with a powerful forward line led by Sam Bowering, a rock like defence and a classy on ball brigade featuring Ashley Banks, Craig Unsworth, Craig Grace, Trent Moore and Brett Mitchell will create headaches for Richmond who turned their form around last week and a repeat of that will test the home team with Heath Barwin, Andrew Haines, Steven Dick, Ben and Kane Waller and Darryl Williams leading from the front.

At New Town St.Virgils will be hoping for an improved performance when they clash with the luckless University.

St. Virgils were blitzed in the third quarter last week but their form suggests they will reverse that trend led by Brendan Davis, Zac Batchelor, Brad Dodge, John Rafferty and Damien Hill. Nothing is going right for University with key players out injured but Patrick McIver is leading from the front with support from Hamish Scott, Stuart Cooper, Alex Saunders and Julian Damesena.

Review Round 5- May 03

It took a 6 goal final quarter for St.Virgils to shake off a gallant University at New Town. University had the better of a high scoring opening quarter but St.Virgils fought back to lead by 5 points at half time but University came out full of running in the third quarter kicking 7 goals to 4 and lead by 13 points at three quarter time but St.Virgils came home too strong to win by 22 points. Defenders Daniel Nicholas, Scott Quinn and Nick Davey with forward Jason Frawley were best for St.Virgils while for University David Welch, Nick Marson and Jarred Allen were busy and ruckman Pat McIver worked tirelessly all day.

Hutchins withstood a final quarter assault by DOSA to win by 16 points at Queenborough. Hutchins led at every change and appeared set for a comfortable victory with a lead of 44 points at three quarter time but DOSA fought back but could not make up the deficit in time. Adam Doran led the way for Hutchins supported by runners Michael Egan, Andrew Deane and Jamie Harriss while Matthew Honey was a focal point forward for DOSA backed up by Cameron Golding, Nick Lunn and Andrew Emery.

OHA stamped their authority on the competition after handing Richmond an 83 point hiding at Geilston Bay. OHA were far too slick for their opponents with options aplenty all over the ground and apart from a final quarter fightback Richmond trailed all day. Midfielders Craig Grace, Craig Unsworth and Michael Bannister with Trent Moore stood out for OHA while Kane Waller, Matt Evans, Jacob Dunn and Darryl Williams were best for Richmond.

 Preview Round 4- April 26

An interesting match is forecast between DOSA and OHA with all eyes on OHA as to how far they have progressed as they will be tested by an in form DOSA. DOSA had a comfortable win last week but will need to push the ladder leaders for four quarters with utility Kim Harvey, Scott Beattie, Paul Lennox, Nick Lunn and James Penwright who cover a lot of territory while if Scott Allen returns it strengthens their forward structure. OHA received a fright last week but with the in form Callum Garvey along with forwards Ashley Banks and Sam Bowering firing and Damien Dillon and Matthew Zukauskas providing plenty of chances a cracker of a match should be witnessed.

The University versus Hutchins clash could go down to the wire as both teams are showing plenty of vigour and their matches are always interesting. University have injury problems but the players stepping in are displaying great courage and endeavour led by David McIvor, Nick Marson, James Murray and Julian Damesena. Hutchins looked good in stages last week with Adam Palfreyman, Michael Egan, Jamie Harriss and Robert Jubb in form.

Richmond take on St.Virgils under lights at Richmond and first impressions selects St.Virgils to win but Richmond are renowned fighters and a close match is expected. Richmond need a victory to boost their confidence and led by Adam Daft, Ben Waller and Heath Barwin will test St.Virgils who have Mark Hill, Brendan Davis, Matthew Cracknell and Damian Hill in form.

Review Round 4- April 26

Ladder leaders OHA put on a clinical display in disposing of DOSA at Cadburys. DOSA without several of their key players were no match for a rampaging Ships combination led by Sam Bowering at full forward with 11 goals. OHA led by 43 points at half time but DOSA were making them earn their goals and a close finish looked possible but the floodgates opened in the second half with OHA piling on 15 goals to 1 goal and run out convincing 134 point winners. Other good players for OHA were midfielders Craig Unsworth and Trent Moore and Luke Taylor in defence while DOSA were best served by Pat Carroll, Scott Beattie, Matthew Harrison and Heath Simms.

Hutchins continues to impress after handing University a 73 point drubbing. Hutchins led throughout and the match was all over at three quarter time after they kicked 7 goals and lead by 75 points while University struggled for goals apart from the opening and final quarters. Midfielder Michael Egan, onballers Jamie Harriss and defenders Andrew Deane and Aaron Hogan were best for Hutchins while defenders Jarrod Allen, Alex Saunders and Andrew Maney with onballer Gavin Shaw the best for University.

In a team effort headed by Andrew Haines, Heath Barwin and Kane and Ben Waller Richmond defied the odds with an easy win over St.Virgils under lights. Richmond tore the match apart with a 10 goal third quarter after an even first half to run out eventual 57 point winners. Onballers Brendan Davis and Brad Dodge with defenders Duncan Jones and John Rafferty battled hard for St.Virgils.

Preview Round 3- April 19

Its only two matches in to the season but OHA are displaying ominous form but should receive stiff opposition from an enthusiastic St.Virgils who have ground out two solid wins in their clash at Geilston Bay. OHA are receiving plenty of drive from their onballers Michael Bannister, Damien Dillon, Craig Unsworth and Craig Grace while Callum Garvey marshals a strong defence and Sam Bowering is a target up forward while St.Virgils strengths lie with their talented runners in Mark Hill, Daniel Gray, Matthew Parker, Matthew Cracknell and Ashley Rhodes linking up with mobile forwards and a sound defence.

University will have their work cut out to match it with DOSA in their match at University. The home team has not covered their loss of key players but will give a bold showing led by David Welch, Michael Gowans, Gavin Shaw and Julian Damesena. DOSA missed out last week but will bounce back through onballers Nick Lunn, James Penwright, Pat Carroll and Chris Rowbottom.

Hutchins versus Richmond clashes are always full of interest and this match should be no exception at Queenborough. With Doug Rossiter and Damien Clark in defence along with Sam Palfreyman and Jamie Harris leading the way Hutchins will pressure Richmond throughout but with Chris Ross whether playing forward or in defence, Andrew Haines, Steven Dick and Adam Baines in form the visitors will give a good account of themselves.

Review Round 3- April 19

A more direct Hutchins scored a comfortable win over a wasteful Richmond. Richmond squandered chances early with indirect play and turnovers and with Adam Palfreyman a focal point and Jamie Harriss dangerous up forward Hutchins took control to lead by 46 points at half time. Richmond broke even in the second half but the damage had been done and Hutchins ran out 44 point winners. Other good players for Hutchins were midfielder Michael Egan and Damien Clark in defence while Kane and Ben Waller, Heath Barwin and Aaron Reeves worked hard for Richmond.

OHA kept their unbeaten record intact with a thrilling 2 point win over St.Virgils. OHA established a 26 point lead at the main break but St.Virgils were not to be outdone and fought back to reduce the deficit to 4 points entering the final quarter which was a thriller with OHA able to hang on. Callum Garvey was again best for OHA supported by Luke Taylor, Ashley Banks and Matthew Zukauskas while Jaye Nibbs, Richard Oates, Damian Hill and Matthew Cracknell stood out for St.Virgils.

DOSA proved too strong for a gallant University to win by 54 points. DOSA were dominant in the first half and although University fought back in the third quarter DOSA answered every challenge. Pat Carroll, Cameron Golding, Scott Beattie and Nick Lunn were best for DOSA and Julian Damesena, David McIver, Greg Farmilo and Nick Marson were the pick for University.

Preview Round 2- April 12

A titanic struggle looms when St.Virgils and DOSA clash at New Town. St.Virgils new recruits slotting in nicely and there were smiles on their supporters faces with Corey Bygraves and Damian Hill’s return to the club while onballers Mark Hill and Daniel Gray, forwards Mark Beck and Matthew Parker looked good. DOSA displayed great early season form last week with Kim Harvey, James Penwright, Nick Lunn, Luke Golding and Nick Benson shining lights. Richmond host University and with the likely return of key players combined with their second half effort last week where Kane Waller, Jhy Wiggins, Justin Muskett and Chris Ross stood out should see them hold to many aces for the visitors who were down last week but usually play well against Richmond and led by onballers Michael Gowans, Gavin Shaw, Cody Dineley and forward David Welch will give a good account of themselves.

OHA clash with Hutchins at Geilston Bay in what should be a cracker of a game. OHA had a massive win last week with recruits Andrew Chilcott, Sam Bowering, Damien Dillon and coach Scott McCallum dominant while Ashley Banks and Craig Grace also stood out in an otherwise team performance. Hutchins struggled after quarter time last week and will need onballers Michael Egan, Matthew Lister and Sam Palfreyman and defenders Marcus Windsor, James Faulkner and Doug Rossiter to step up.

Review Round 2- April 12

An in form St.Virgils held off a determined DOSA in their clash at New Town and remain unbeaten after two rounds. A close match looked imminent from the start with only 5 points the margin at quarter time but St.Virgils’ endeavour after that enabled them to increase their margin and win by 21 points. Defender Zac Batchelor and onballers Ashley Rhodes, Matthew Cracknell and Matthew Parker were best for St.Virgils while onballers Nick Lunn, James Penwright, Pat Carroll and Nathan Abrahams stood out for DOSA.

A six goal final quarter enabled Richmond to hold off University and register their first win by 11 points. The first half was an even affair with scores locked together at half time but University came out full of running in the third quarter kicking 5 goals to 3 and lead by 10 points but Richmond took over after that. Adam Baines was everywhere for Richmond supported by Adam Daft, Andrew Haines and Chris Ross while Hamish Scott, Julian Damasena, Stuart Cooper and Michael Gowans were best for University.

OHA continued their awesome form with a comfortable 68 point win over Hutchins. After a slow opening by both teams OHA moved up a gear kicking 18 goals to 7 by Hutchins in a good performance led by the evergreen Michael Bannister, Callum Garvey, Warwick Dawson and Ashley Banks. Hutchins were outplayed but had good contributors in onballers Michael Egan, Jamie Harris and defenders Damien Clark and Doug Rossiter.

Preview Round 1 - April 5

The Old Scholars Football Association roster commences this Saturday in what promises to be a bumper season highlighted by the recruitment of star players.

DOSA host Richmond at Cadburys in what should be a close game. DOSA have reappointed Scott Allen as coach and although they have lost Peter Jelkic, Scott Hartill and Luke Browning they will still be a force to be reckoned with as they have signed on a number of players from the SFL Premier and Regional Leagues and have the creative Kim Harvey, Cameron Golding and Brendan Rogers to lead the way.

Richmond have appointed Heath Barwin to lead the club while recruiting several players from Dodges Ferry which offsets the loss of Cameron Johnson, Darren McGuinness, Nathan Williams and Tim Gibbs and the team looks very solid.

Last years premiers Hutchins meet St.Virgils at Queenborough in what should be another keen contest. Hutchins have lost five key players from last years team but have replaced them with some class players and they will be a threat again led by Jamie Harriss, Sam Palfreyman, Adam Palfreyman, Michael Egan, Mathew Lister and James Faulkner.

A new look St.Virgils with Daniel Gray at the helm and boosted by a large number of recruits led by ex Clarence coach Nick Davey whilst retaining the bulk of last years players led by Marcus and Jeremy Parker, Damian Lowe and Brad Hastie will be worthy opponents for all teams this year and a victory first up would be ideal.

University have appointed John Barwick as non playing coach and whilst losing a number of very good players have recruited some promising players while Cody Dineley, David Welch, Greg Farmilo, Shaun Suitor, Paul Brooks and Gavin Shaw can be relied upon to provide drive.

OHA with Scott McCallum in charge plus new recruits led by Stuart Probert, Andrew Chilcott, Sam Bowring and Damien Dillon look to be the big improvers and with no real losses of note a big season is anticipated.

DOSA commenced their season in style with a comfortable win over Richmond. With playmakers Kim Harvey and James Penwright leading the way DOSA started full of running and led by 36 points at quarter time which they increased to 65 points at the main break. The trend continued in the third quarter but Richmond used the ball better but broke down up forward with the margin 81 points entering the final quarter and while Richmond finished off the better DOSA won by 64 points. Other fine contributors for DOSA were runners Pat Carroll and Paul Lennox and  ruckman Luke Golding while for Richmond Kane and Ben Waller, Jhy Wiggins  and Justin Muskett, battled hard.

OHA sent a warning to all clubs they mean business after inflicting a heavy defeat on University. OHA dominated from the first quarter with a brand of football that has not been seen for quite some seasons mainly through the dominance of Sam Bowring (8 goals), Andrew Chilcott, Damien Dillon and John Marsland in their 154 point win. University are missing several key players but battled hard against the odds and none tried harder than Michael Gowans, Scott Rolls, Robert Oakley and Gavin Shaw

An inaccurate St.Virgils looked very impressive in their 27 point win over reigning premier Hutchins. Apart from the first quarter Saints led all day with newcomers Mark Hill and Jaye Nibbs plus Matthew Cracknell and Matthew Parker their best players with Sam Palfreyman, Matthew Lister, James Faulkner and Marcus Windsor best for Hutchins.
