Dear Supporter
Welcome
to the first TUFC Supporters Group update newsletter for 2008.
At the conclusion of Round 6, both the Seniors and Reserves are languishing at
the foot of the ladder without a win unfamiliar territory in recent years.
The Seniors in particular were hit hard by injury in the early rounds,
missing key players such as David Welch, Cody Dinely, Mick Gowans, Nick Whittle
and Paul Brooks. The return of quality players like these will certainly be
welcomed by Coach John Barwick, and will undoubtedly convert to a few wins.
Reserves, coached by Gavin Shaw, have borne the brunt of reduced depth
at the Club as a result of player departures, injury and unavailability. The
side has been giving a good account of itself nonetheless against regularly
stronger opposition, and a number of players have shown the ability to push for
Senior selection.
Despite unflattering ladder positions, the mood around the Club is very positive, with many new players starting to find their feet, and a few regulars beginning to play some excellent football. The general feeling is that first victories will come very soon and more will follow.

Best Summary
After a
reasonable pre season the first round proved to be a bit of a wakeup call
for the young Rainbows. Promising performances from some players stepping up this season, such as Rob Oakley , Stuart Cooper and Scott Rolls is defence. Mick Gowans delivered a quality performance as the best big man on the field.

Goals
Best Summary Early goals from DOSA and inaccurate kicking at goal cost Uni dearly, as apart from this the Uni team were on equal terms with their northern suburbs counterparts in general play. Perths Iswadi Damasena played another great game for Uni, whilst young Nick Marson from Launceston was under every pack and showed the sort of grunt that will serve the side well this season. |

Goals
Best Summary With a lot of pre-season hype surrounding the St Virgils side, the Uni boys shocked all onlookers by playing their best quarter for the season so far, and led by 16 points at quarter time. The lead changed regularly throughout a free-flowing match. However, the young University side was again not able to run out the final quarter with sufficient energy to trap the first win of the year. There were plenty of positives nonetheless, including the ongoing form of Nick Marson and Jarrod Allen, and the welcome return from injury of David Welch. |
